If there is one question most frequently asked of songwriters it is to pick the song from their catalog they are most fond of. The answer that follows tends to be a cliche, comparing the act to that of picking a favorite child. Not that I’m one to judge as I’ve used that line on multiple occasions. Truthfully though, these songs are less like children and more like that favorite t shirt you let get so full of holes before finally retiring it. For me these songs are the stories that add up to my “life so far”. I count the songs on this list as defining moments, either in my personal life, or in the forward momentum of my career. I wouldn’t read too much into what was chosen or left off this list. This is merely a curation for the moment at hand. Revisiting these recordings after so many years was certainly an exercise in nostalgia, like running into an old friend at a bar and feeling like you had never missed a beat. I’ve done my best to share stories about the songs and what inspired their creation. Without question there will be long-time fans protesting what did or did not make this list, but you can take it for what it is. A snapshot of a person in process.
